Your Beliefs Shape Your Life

Earlier this year, my husband didn't want to go to Mexico...

Let me backtrack a bit here...

Mexico wasn't on my husband's "Life List." He had no interest in visiting the country and he was alarmed by some incidents happening to tourists. The media he was exposed to gave the whole country a bad name. So when I proposed a trip to Cabo, he was very reluctant to consider it. It sure didn't help that he had grown up with his own mother's bias against Mexico. 

His belief system was simple: Mexico was dangerous and not a good place to vacation in. 

Me, on the other hand, had been to Cabo twice and I loved it. I wanted to go back. I wanted my husband to experience the wonder and joy that I associated with Cabo. 

I booked the trip and figured I would ask forgiveness later. 

The hubby was a little miffed at first, but you know that saying, "happy wife, happy life?" Well, he was along for the ride and he would make the best of it. 

Well, after a week on a beautiful beach in Cabo, the hubby is already planning the next trip. His belief system about Mexico has completely shifted. 

Why am I sharing this story? 

Our belief system is bombarded by information all day long, for all of our lives. We are the result of everything we've learned, assimilated, practiced, and absorbed in our lifetime. Today, with our wide, vast exposure to media--on a level like never before- we often don't know what is true and what is tweaked, made up, or an outright lie. 

Yet, we have the infinite power within us to change our beliefs. We literally can choose what we want to believe. 

Sit and ponder the beliefs you have within you that are holding you back. Are they true? How will you live differently if you change a belief that's keeping you from joy, love, and gratitude?
